MINUTES

The Park & Rec. Advisory Council met on Thursday, March 27th, 2008, at 6:30 p.m., at the Town Hall. Present were Chairperson Earl Jewett, John Rickert, John Abler, John Morris, Bob Roehrig and Secretary Brenda Schneider. Absent were Linda Calvey, Bill Holzbach, Gary Morgen, Kim Bertram, Ed Schneider and Lyle Nett (excused). Also present was Janet Furtak, Lakeshore Elementary Parent/Teacher Organization.
Chairperson Jewett called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m...
1) Discuss 2008 projects:
a) St. Peter park donation. The Donor is purchasing the lot at the corner of Cty. QQ and Hillside Drive. The closing will occur on March 28th. The Committee discussed the following:
The Clerk is awaiting comments from the Donor regarding a dedication ceremony.
The Clerk was directed to order the sign.
Playground equipment:
o Compile potential desired components. Attempt to appeal to several age groups.
o Obtain input from children and nearby residents..
o BCI Burke has agreed to provide a 20% discount.
o Burke has assigned a representative to work with the Committee to develop a plan.
o Surface beneath the playground equipment could be rubber or engineered wood chips.
The site will need a culvert and some stone/gravel for a parking area.
Consider future lighting.
Consider planning for a bathroom; which could be partially funded by grant revenue.
Benches could be purchased through fund-raising with dedication plaques mounted on the pieces.
Consider soliciting for donations and conducting other fund-raising efforts.
Solicit assistance from the following groups:
o St. Peter Lions Club
o St. Peter Athletic Club
o St. Peter 4H
Develop a budget.
Develop a site plan.
Insurance agent estimated a moderate increase in premium.
Committee will further discuss the St. Peter park at the April 16th meeting. (Note: this meeting was re-scheduled to April 24th due to conflicts.)
b) Park maintenance and projects. Committee will discuss general park maintenance at the April 7th meeting.
2) Public Comment. None given.
3) Adjournment. Bob Roehrig moved to adjourn at 7:57 p.m., seconded by John Rickert. Motion carried.
