MINUTES

The Park & Rec. Advisory Council met on Monday, April 7th, 2008, at 6:30 p.m., at the Town Hall. Present were Chairperson Earl Jewett, John Abler, Lyle Nett, Gary Morgen and Secretary Brenda Schneider. Absent were John Rickert, John Morris, Bob Roehrig, Linda Calvey, Bill Holzbach, Kim Bertram, and Ed Schneider. Also present were Mike Wirtz, Town Board Supervisor, and Ed Braun Comprehensive Planning Committee Chairman.
Chairperson Jewett called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m...
1) Discuss 2008 projects:
a) St. Peter park donation. The Donor closed on the purchase of the lot at the corner of Cty. QQ and Hillside Drive on March 28th. The Committee discussed the following:
• Performing a dedication ceremony at 6:30 p.m., on May 26th, Memorial Day.
• The wording for the sign has been finalized.
• Mike Wirtz will speak to the Lion’s Club about assisting with the project.
• Gary Morgen will inform the Athletic Club.
• The next meeting will be to discuss the development of the St. Peter park, soliciting donations, determining maintenance needs, discuss safety issues and access to the park.
b) Park maintenance and projects.
o The prairie will be burned tomorrow morning.
o The Committee designated a priority rating to each of the projects identified for the park.
o Observation deck: Lyle and Gary will build the deck off-site on a trailer. The posts can be set during the workday. The stairs and railing would be built and attached after the deck is in position. Estimated cost: $2,200.00. Lyle Nett moved to build a 12x12x8 observation platform, seconded by John Abler. Motion carried. The Committee will meet at 5:30 on April 24th to select the location.
2) Review and recommend amendments to the Town Outdoor Recreation and Open Space Plan. The Committee reviewed pertinent responses to the Citizen’s Survey done in conjunction with the Comprehensive Plan. They noted desires to have ATV trails and camping facilities. The Committee discusses the following:
a) Developing a park in the Fisherman’s Road area.
b) Opening a trail on the dedicated right-of-way between Evergreen Court and Sunset Drive.
c) Park fees in lieu of dedication of land.
d) Possibly selling the Hidden Prairie lot and apply the revenue to other parks.
e) Develop the Gladstone lot.
3) Public Comment. None given.
4) Adjournment. Lyle Nett moved to adjourn at 8:35 p.m., seconded by Gary Morgen. Motion carried.
