June 24th, 2008 Park & Rec. Advisory Council 1.

The Park & Rec. Advisory Council met on Tuesday, June 24th, 2008, at 6:30 p.m., at the Town Hall. Present were Chairperson Earl Jewett, Bob Roehrig, John Abler, John Rickert, Laura Pierret, Janet Velasco and Secretary Brenda Schneider. Absent were Lyle Nett (excused), Gary Morgen, Jim Bertram, John Morris, Kim Bertram, and Ed Schneider.

Chairperson Jewett called the meeting to order.

1) Discuss 2008 projects;
a) Hermanns Park Development:
i) The Park dedication was held on May 26th.
ii) Phase I of the playground equipment, plus a two-bay swing set has been ordered. Total cost of $14,092.00.
iii) Phase II, the intensity equipment will increase in price in December, 2008.
iv) Fall zone material is planned to be rubberized chips.
v) Sandbox will also be constructed. The sandbox will be framed with vertical telephone poles. Construction was planned for July 26th.
vi) Discussed possible fund raising projects:
(1) A letter requesting donations will go out soon.
(2) Aluminum can drive is ongoing.
(3) Rummage sale.
(4) Babysitting service for holiday shopping.
(5) Flamingo flocking.
(6) Hike in Kiekhaefer Park event.
(7) Sell hot cocoa at Kiekhaefer Park during sledding days.
vii) Uni-sex bathroom/shelter. The future location needs to be determined. Roger Braun will be asked for a quote to extend the sewer lateral in the event it needs to be extended prior to installing the playground equipment.
b) Kiekhaefer Park maintenance and projects:
i) The observation deck has been completed. Thank you to Nett Construction.
(1) Orville Schmitz’s memorial fund covered the entire cost of the deck.
(2) Committee would like to dedicate the deck to Orville.
(3) Orville’s family suggested:
Auf Wiedersehn, my Friend, in memory of Orville Schmitz, 1917-2008
(4) Committee will research the cost of a brass, raised letter plaque.
ii) The cub scouts installed 21 bird houses in the Park. The bird houses were constructed and situated with DNR assistance.
iii) Leadership Fond du Lac has installed the historical sign.
iv) A picket fence will be installed along a portion of the parking lot.
v) A porta-potty may be added.
vi) Parking lot could be built off of Silica Road.
vii) Install two light poles near the sledding bowl. The Committee designated this project as a priority.

2) Public Comment. None given.

The Committee will meet on August 20th, at 6:30 p.m.

3) Adjournment. Laura Pierret moved to adjourn at 7:58 p.m., seconded by Janet Velasco. Motion carried.
