The Park & Rec. Advisory Council met on Tuesday, March 1st, 2011, at 6:30 p.m., at the Town Hall. Present were Chairperson Earl Jewett, Jim Bertram, Dave Sehloff, Ed Braun and Brenda Schneider. Absent were: John Abler, Bob Roehrig, Gary Morgen, John Rickert, Mike Wirtz, Janet Velasco, Tom Letkewicz, Cindi Goebel, Ed Schneider, Jason Meyer, and Dustin Nalley.
Chairman Earl Jewett called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
1) Discuss 2011 projects
a) Hermanns Park maintenance and projects: The Mullholland Family intends to donate four benches. Committee advised dark green or dark brown. Faith Hermanns will be asked to select locations. The Town will attempt to coordinate concreting the pads with a couple of local masons. The Mullhollands wish to dedicate each bench to their grandmothers. Research is needed to determine the best way to install dedication signage.
Woodchips in the playground area need to be restocked.
b) Kiekhaefer Park maintenance and projects:
Trail grooming. The Kettle Moraine Nordic Ski Club is selling gently used trail grooming equipment for $1,700.00. Dr. Clement is soliciting donations specifically for the trail grooming equipment. Earl Jewett and Jim Bertram plan to pick-up the equipment tomorrow. They also expect to get some training on the equipment.
The snowmobile will need a slight modification in order to accommodate the new equipment. The snowmobile has been problematic for grooming purposes but will need to suffice for the time being.
Skiers have complained about people hiking on the groomed ski trail. There have been suggestions that the Town adopt an ordinance prohibiting hiking or other uses on ski trails during ski season. The Committee acknowledged that enforcement would be an issue. The matter was postponed.
Logging. Mr Jewett contacted Mark Kirschling. Mr. Kirschling will compile a recommendation regarding logging and tree maintenance.
Mr. Jewett suggested planting more pines along the pine plantation. A DNR Forester developed a plan several years ago.
Signs. New rules and regulations signs have been ordered and received. The signs will be posted in the spring.
Donation canister. A donation canister was installed at the Kiekhaefer Parkway entrance in December. To date, $39.00 has been deposited.
Garbage cans. Garbage cans have been removed. So far, it has solved the litter problem.
Land Acquisition. The 4.48 acre land purchase is in process.
Railroad Bed Trail. Tiling at the railroad bed trail needs to be done. Jim Bertram volunteered to do the work once conditions are dry. Committee estimated a need for 500 feet of tile.
Flyover. A Military Fly-Over is being planned for July 4th. FAA needs to give their approval.
c) Volunteer Workdays. Workdays for 2011 will be planned in the spring.
2) Review the Town of Taycheedah Outdoor Recreation and Open Space Plan. General discussion took place on this topic.
3) Public Comment. None was presented.
