MINUTES

The Park & Rec. Advisory Council met on Tuesday, May 1st, 2012, at 6:30 p.m., at the Town Hall. Present were Chairperson Earl Jewett, Bob Roehrig, Dale Driscoll and Brenda Schneider.

1) Call to order. Chairman Earl Jewett called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m.

2) Approve the minutes of the March 26th, 2012 meeting. The minutes were accepted as distributed.

3) Discuss 2012 projects:
a) Hermanns Park maintenance and projects.
Mark Schumacher again donated lawn-rolling service and the Town intends to spray for weeds in the fall.
The trees need to be trimmed.
The wind destroyed the sign again. A replacement sign has been installed.
The flag pole rope is in need of replacement.
The Mulholland donation was $358.38 in excess of the cost of the benches. Virginia Bertram also donated $50. Staff is planning to purchase a spring-mounted rocking toy with the additional funds.
b) Kiekhaefer Park maintenance and projects.
Stuart's has 8-foot evergreens. The Committee would like to plant three evergreens by the sign.
Owners not picking up dog feces are becoming an issue. A preliminary sign was reviewed. The Committee will explore the purchase and installation of supply containers.
Fence materials were purchased in 2011. Installation of the fence is planned for the fall. Holyland Snowflyers may provide volunteer laborers.
Committee discussed making the kiosk weather-tight.
Edge the Ledge is planned for June 24th. Earl and Mike Sabel met with the promoters a couple of weeks ago. A permanent mud pit will be created. The fire obstacle will not be allowed due to liability. The Town is still waiting for the promoter's alternate parking plan and certificate of insurance.
A few years ago, Dave Hornung offered to prepare an updated park map. Earl will check on a status report.
Committee will research installing a porta-potty for the summer to fall on a trial basis.
The seeding on the new snowmobile trail is coming along nicely.
The south snowmobile trail will be re-routed across the clearing to the new brush-cleared path heading to the Scenic Overlook.
In the past, skiers have used the groomed snowmobile trail. New signs will be posted.
The Silica Road parking lot fence and guardrail need to be painted. A new sign will be ordered for posting at the parking lot.
May 1st, 2012 Park & Rec Committee 2.

The local kiteboarder group was authorized to perform volunteer work at the Deadwood lot. Unfortunately they did not wait for guidance from the County Code Enforcement Office. Brush was cleared and the shoreline was cleaned. Per the Code Enforcement Dept, the DNR may require some degree of restoration and erosion control. The kiteboarder group has been contacted.

Staff plans to install concrete pads for benches at the Gladstone and Deadwood lots. Benches will be purchased in the future.

c) Volunteer Workdays. A good crew was in attendance. The crew trimmed evergreens in the plantation and replaced signs.

4) Next Meeting. The next meeting was not scheduled.

5) Public Comment. None presented.

6) Adjournment. Motion by Bob Roehrig, second by Earl Jewett, to adjourn the meeting at 7:39 pm. Motion carried by voice vote.

Respectfully submitted by Brenda Schneider
