MINUTES

The Park & Rec. Advisory Council met on Wednesday. September 12, 2012, at 6:00 p.m., at the Town Hall. Present were Chairperson Earl Jewett, Bob Roehrig, John Rickert and Brenda Schneider.

1) Call to order. Chairman Earl Jewett called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m.

2) Approve the minutes of the May 1, 2012 meeting. The minutes were accepted as distributed.

3) Discuss 2012 projects:
a) Hermanns Park maintenance and projects.
A spring-mounted rocking toy has been ordered and received. The toy needs to be installed.
The Town is in the process of having the right-of-way between Sunset Drive and Evergreen Court surveyed. The Town intends to install a gravel path.
b) Kiekhaefer Park maintenance and projects.
Edge the Ledge Adventure Race, held on June 24th, was a success. There were over 800 participants. The Town received a $1,200 donation from the event's promoter. The Committee discussed establishing a charge for renting the Park.
o A rut in the lawn remains where the slip 'n slide was located. The area could use some seeding.
o Jim Bertram used a mini-backhoe to create a permanent mud pit. The remaining pile of dirt needs to be removed before winter.
Large rocks were placed at the base of the hill leading to the observation deck for the purpose of stopping vehicles from driving to the top of the hill.
The Committee is still interested in planting three large evergreens by the sign.
The AT&T easement has been brushed. The area now needs to be mowed. Bob is willing to do it.
A new fence is planned along the easement area. The materials were purchased in 2011. The fence needs to be installed. The Holyland Snowflyers may provide the labor.
The east gate needs to be widen for the snowmobile groomer. Bob has removed some trees and is in the process of trimming some of the trees along the east trail to allow easier access to fire trucks.
A dog waste supply station has been purchased. It needs to be installed.
Ed Braun donated four wooden benches for the Park.
A port-potty has been installed near the entrance. It has been in place approximately six weeks. It has already been tipped over and pushed down the hill. It is now cabled and locked to the light post. It is scheduled to be removed late October.
September 12, 2012 Park & Rec Committee 2.

The Committee continues to wait for Dave Hornung to produce new Park trail signs.
Ed Braun will be asked to waterproof the kiosk.
c) Scenic Overlook maintenance and projects.
Some tree trimming and removal has been completed.
The picnic tables have been re-painted.
d) Gladstone Park maintenance and projects.
An area Boy Scout is planning an Eagle Scout project at the Park. Plans include the installation of two concrete pads with a bench mounted on each pad and landscaping with a sign. The lot was recently surveyed. The survey notes that all and/or portions of the neighbor's landscaping impedes the Town's lot. The Town Board will be briefed on the project and the survey during their October 8th meeting. The Committee fully supports the Eagle Scout project.
e) Deadwood Point Park maintenance and projects.
The local kiteboarder group was authorized to perform volunteer work at the Deadwood lot. Unfortunately they did not wait for guidance from the County Code Enforcement Office. Brush was cleared and the shoreline was cleaned. Per the Code Enforcement Dept, the DNR may require some degree of restoration and erosion control. The kiteboarder group has been contacted, but they have yet to submit their restoration plan to the County. The group has used the site several times for kiteboarding.
The drainage ditch, running along the south property line of the Town lot, is in need of cleaning. It is unknown who is responsible. It is also unknown at this time how the ditch can be cleaned without further destroying vegetation. The Town will apply to the DNR for a permit.
Fisherman's Road Boat Launch.
During the 2013 budget process this fall, the Town Board may discuss charging a launch fee.
f) Volunteer Workdays. Workdays were scheduled for 10/13, 10/24 and 10/30.

4) Next Meeting. The next meeting will be held on October 17th.

5) Public Comment. None presented.

6) Adjournment. Chair Jewett declared the meeting adjourned at 7:41 pm.

Respectfully submitted by Brenda Schneider
