MINUTES

PARK & REC ADVISORY COUNCIL
APRIL 11, 2013
6:30 P.M.
TAYCHEEDAH TOWN HALL

Members present were Chairman Earl Jewett, Ed Braun, John Rickert, John Abler and Jim Bertram. Also present were Clerk Brenda Schneider and Jim, Laura and Devon Pierret.

1. Call to order. Chairman Earl Jewett called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Motion by Ed Braun, second by Jim Bertram, to approve the minutes of the October 9, 2012 meeting. Motion carried.
2. Discuss 2013 projects:
a. Hermanns Park maintenance and projects. The spring-mounted rocking toy needs to be installed and the wood chips need to be replenished. Project costs estimated to be $500.
b. Kiekhaefer Park maintenance and projects. The trees near the sledding hill need to be trimmed. As in the past, there were problems with non-skiers walking on the groomed trails. Signage has decreased instances of this problem. It was noted that winter use was heavy.
Woodchips need to be spread on the railroad bed trail.
Chair Jewett has ordered lexon glass for the sign kiosk. He plans to move the glass to the south side. Ed Braun and Mike Wirtz will re-configure the access to the bulletin board.
A controlled burn of the prairie is planned for this spring. The timing of the burn is weather dependent.
A dog waste supply center has been installed.
Dave Hornung, Graphics Center, is in the process of finalizing the Park Map. Dave is awaiting the final trail map designations. Earl Jewett will order two 24x36 maps, at $78 each, for the kiosk and the north parking lot. He will also order four to six 12x18 maps, at $29 each.
The adventure area has been postponed indefinitely due to lack of manpower.
The Town contracted for a porta-potty during the 2012 season. The company will be contacted for a report on the volume of use in order to determine if one will be placed in the Park for the 2013 season.
Antique snowmobile enthusiasts are interested in a snowmobile race event on the former Kiekhaefer Race Track. A request for the event may eventually be submitted to the Town Board.
The Town no longer uses the 1994 Polaris Indy Storm, donated by Dave Twohig, for trail grooming. Mr. Twohig was contacted. He has direct the Clerk to sell the snowmobile and to donate the proceeds to the Town's Park Fund.
Edge the Ledge Adventure Race will be conducted on June 22nd.
c. Scenic Overlook maintenance and projects. The pouring of concrete pads for future bench installation is planned. The pour will be coordinated with the Gladstone project. The estimated cost was $400.
d. Gladstone Park maintenance and projects. Devon Pierret reported on his Eagle Scout Project. Two concrete slabs will be poured near the water's edge. Both slabs will have benches mounted on them. An identification sign and landscaping will be added near the cel de sac. Devon has fellow scouts committed to providing assistance. The project is planned for over the summer and is expected to take 1.5 months. The Town will order the sign. Earl Jewett will work with Devon on the final costs. It was noted that the Town's budget for the Park is $400.
e. Deadwood Point Park maintenance and projects. Nothing to report at this time.
f. Volunteer Workdays. A Volunteer Workday was planned for May 4th, 8:30-noon, dependent upon weather.
3. Budget Review. The Department's 2013 budget and the Capital Improvement Plan were reviewed.
4. Next Meeting. The next meeting will be held on June 12th, at 6:30 p.m.
5. Public Comment. None was presented.
6. Adjournment. Chair Jewett declared the meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by Brenda Schneider
