PARK & REC ADVISORY COUNCIL
AUGUST 8, 2013
TAYCHEEDAH TOWN HALL
Members present were Chairman Earl Jewett, John Abler and Jim Bertram. Also present was Clerk Brenda Schneider. It was noted that a quorum of the Board was not in attendance.
Call to order. Chairman Earl Jewett called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
Edge the Ledge 2013.
Due to wet soil conditions, equipment used during the preparation for the event caused significant damage to the trails.
Ledgeland Landscaping provided a quote of $1,500 to repair the damaged trails. The quote does not include netting and straw.
Midwest Sporting Events failed to comply with the Town's Park Use Policy.
Council advised the following conditions be placed upon the promoter if granted approval to hold the event in the future:
• Repairs must be made at Midwest Sporting Events' cost;
• Financial disclosure be provided;
• Reasonable donation be made;
• Require bonding prior to the event;
• Develop a reasonable plan for overflow parking;
• Must follow Park Use Policy; and
• Maximum participation limit of 1,500.
The steep slope on the new trail along the tower fence line is eroding. Ledgeland Landscaping has submitted a quote of $500 to seed the area. The quote excludes netting and straw. Holyland Snowflyers plan to work with Ledgeland Landscaping on the project.
Wild parsnip has been found in several areas. Chairman Jewett has been working on destroying invasive plants.
Concrete pads for two benches need to be poured at the sled hill.
The stone pillars holding the sign recently let loose. One of the pillars broke. Dave Wirtz is in the process of replacing it.
An upcoming Eagle Scout project involves placing permanent geo-caching markers in the Park. The scout is currently working on approval from his council. The scout may attend the council's next meeting.
Other possible Eagle Scout projects could include designing and building all or part of an adventure area in the sledding hill basin.
Council consensus was to recommend the Town Board adopt a policy requiring seeding as soon as possible whenever excavation work is done in the Park.
A resident has been disappointed that the trails have been closed most of the summer due to wet conditions. It was noted that horseback riders have not been using the proper trails.
Two slabs have been formed for benches. The concrete needs to be poured.
Ginny Schneider intends to donate the installation and extension of electricity for an LED flagpole light. She would also like to donate a Red Bud tree. Both projects would be in memory of Adolph Schneider.
Council recommended the Town Board develop a policy regarding memorial plaques/dedications.
Fall Work Day. A fall work day needs to be scheduled. Council also needs to promote for volunteers.
Adjournment. Chair Jewett declared the meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted by Brenda Schneider
