MINUTES

PARK & REC ADVISORY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 9, 2013
6:30 P.M.
TAYCHEEDAH TOWN HALL

Present: Jim Bertram, John Abler, Dale Driscoll, Earl Jewett
Guests: Dan and Kim Bertram

The meeting was called to order at 6:40 pm by Chairman Earl Jewett.

The committee discussed the Park Use Policy. Discussion primarily focused on the Edge the Ledge event. Consensus among Committee members was that while the Edge the Ledge event is a fun and entertaining event using the Park, the for-profit event has had a damaging impact on the Park. The Committee agreed the revenue from the event does not outweigh the negative impacts.

If the Board does approve the event for 2014, considerable expectations must be met by the event organizers:

-cash deposit of $5,000
-maximum of 1,000 participants
-compensation for supervision by Town employee
-Minimum rental of $3,000
-no vehicles in the Park
-repair of any damages before return of deposit
-compliance with all restrictions/expectations

Representative of Holyland Snowfliers requested establishment of a look in the old race track area to be used for an event with vintage snowmobiles. Earl Jewett will meet with Club members to explore a possible route for the loop.

Priority for fall projects in Kiekhaefer will be to install two benches on the south sled hill and one bench at the east sled hill. Trail maintenance will include widening some areas of encroachment and some re-routing of trails.

Maintenance at Fisherman's Road facilities was discussed. It is recommended that the Town establish a launch fee similar to other boat launches to support restoration of launch facilities and continuing maintenance.

Meeting adjourned at 7:59 PM.

Acting Secretary
Earl Jewett
